Editing and Revising…Fun?
When I first set out to write this book I dreaded this stage in the process. Editing and revising. It just didn’t sound like much fun at all. Periods, commas, checking spelling, sentence formatting–it all seemed so clinical, so uncreative. Yet how wrong I was! I am actually enjoying this stage in the writing process so much more than I thought. As I polish and prepare each chapter before sending it off to my editor, I enjoy going over those words again, making the story richer, better. Then, when I receive the chapters back I am often amazed by how she helps me see a simpler or cleaner way of saying something. I am now learning so much about grammar and punctuation, which only helps make my writing better and crisper. Right now she just sent back chapter 10 and I’m actually eager to make the changes, wrestle with the best way to say what I want to say and clean it up. I feel so much better about each chapter after its been edited and revised. I am still looking at Summer of this year for publishing the book, which is extremely exciting. As always, keep me and my writing project in your prayers! ...
Read MoreVerses For the King of Creation – A Poem
It has long been a thought in the back of my mind to take whole key chapters of the Bible and present the truths of that chapter in verse form. Here is my first attempt. This is a poem based on Genesis 1:1 – 2:3, the creation account. My prayer is that you will use it devotionally to meditate on God’s love in creating this marvelous, diverse world in which we live and that you grow in your appreciation of God’s might and mercy. Please read the Genesis account along with the poem. In the future I plan to go on from here and do more key chapters of the Bible. God’s blessings! When time began from nothingness God was there who always is His grand creative work begun Before the first glow of the sun When earth was formless, empty mess The deep blacked out in deep darkness God the Spirit hovered there The watery depths beneath his care And God spoke his mighty marvelous Word His love burst forth, a miracle occurred… “Let there be light!” and there was light God saw it as good and perfect and right He organized the dark and light He called one “day” he called one “night” And evening and morning, the first day done God’s work of creation had just begun. And God spoke his mighty marvelous Word His love burst forth, a miracle occurred… “Let there be a great wide space Waters below all gathered in place And waters above all hanging high And the place between, I call the ‘sky.’” And evening and morning, the second day through God’s work of creation complete for day two. And God spoke his mighty marvelous Word His love burst forth, a miracle occurred… “Let the waters below be gathered about Let dry ground show where the waters flow out.” And so it was and God named as he pleased The dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” God saw it was good and perfect and right And continued creating a marvelous sight: “Let the land spring forth with great greenery Every kind of plant and fruit-bearing tree!” And the earth came alive with lush vegetation Bountiful beauty clothed God’s great creation God saw it was good and perfect and right And evening and morning, the third day and night And God spoke his mighty marvelous Word His love burst forth, a miracle occurred… “Let there be lights in the space called sky To signal when day or when night draw nigh And let them be signs to mark season and year And give light to the earth where my Light will appear.” And so God made lights and hung them high To shed light on the earth and dazzle the eye. A great one for day and a lesser for night To separately govern the darkness and light And each little star God set like a gem A glittering sky-full—there’s no counting them! God saw it was good and perfect and right And evening and morning, the fourth day and night. And God spoke his mighty, marvelous Word His love burst forth, a miracle occurred… “Let the waters teem with creatures galore Let the sky fill with birds, over earth may they soar.” So a great many species swarmed out in the seas And all kinds of birds spread their wings on the breeze. God saw it was good and perfect and right And he blessed all that swam and took to flight: “Be fruitful, increase in the seas and on earth.” And ever since...
Read MoreWriting Free: What’s That All About
I have two huge passions in my life: Writing and God’s Word. I’ve always loved to write. Growing up I filled notebooks with poetry and reflections on life, faith, people and God. I also loved to read what others wrote. A picture may be worth a thousand words…but when people read a thousand well-written words they may see a million pictures, smell a million smells, taste a million tastes, feel a million feelings, and most importantly they will think a million thoughts. I love to create with words and I love to make people think. I am currently working on publishing a book, a work of Christian fiction. I’m taking a real person mentioned breifly in the Bible and imagining what his life’s journey may have been like. I want to explore what it must have been to live in the days of Saul and David and experience that world and see amazing things that God did in those days. I want to write a story that illustrates what God’s Word has always done in the lives of people on earth and glorify God by communicating his love and his truth in this work of fiction. I pray that God will use it to bring more people into contact with his saving truth–his Word. God’s Word is my chief passion. It is because of God’s truth that I am free–free from the most desperate situation a person can ever imagine. I was born dead-spiritually dead. We all are. God’s truth is clear about that. (Ephesians 2:1-3) Dead in sin, born a sworn enemy of the true God, separated from him and his love, spiritually blind, tragically alone, eternally condemned. It is by God’s grace that I am free from all of that. He worked a miracle! He used his truth to save me. The truth that my Savior has truly come and fulfilled God’s age-old promises. I cannot stand before God as I am, but my Savior lived my life in my place–perfectly! He donated that perfect life on my behalf. He died the death I deserved in my place. He experienced my eternal condemnation. He died on a cross. He was buried in a tomb. He came to life again and shattered death’s grip on me. God has rescued me by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to save a world full of people born dead to God–including me! He has communicated that amazing truth to the world by giving us his Word–the Bible. (Ephesians 2:4-10 and Romans 1:16) I am nothing apart from Christ. He has set me free to serve him and other people with everything that I am and have and do. (Galatians 5:13) And so, I am writing free! May the posts I write here and all I do give glory to the God whose grace alone has set me...
